Factoring calculator

Factor polynomials completely: trinomials, difference of squares, sum/difference of cubes.

Expression

How to factor

Factoring reverses expansion — rewrite an expression as a product of simpler factors.

Methods

GCF: Factor out the greatest common factor first. Trinomial: x²+bx+c = (x+p)(x+q) where pq=c, p+q=b. Difference of squares: a²−b² = (a+b)(a−b). Grouping: For 4+ terms.

Example

x² + 5x + 6: find two numbers that multiply to 6 and add to 5 → 2 and 3. Answer: (x+2)(x+3).
