Amplitude calculator

Find the amplitude of any sinusoidal function y = A·sin(Bx+C)+D or y = A·cos(Bx+C)+D.

f(x) =

What is amplitude?

The amplitude is the maximum displacement from the midline. For y = A·sin(Bx+C)+D, amplitude = |A|.

y = 3sin(2x): amplitude = 3. The function oscillates between −3 and 3.

Effect on the graph

Larger amplitude = taller waves. Amplitude 1 is standard. Amplitude 0.5 makes the wave half as tall. Negative A flips the wave.
